Marschak Interaction Method (MIM)
What is a Marschak Interaction Method (MIM)? The MIM is often Bonsai Therapy’s starting point for conducting parent-child relationship assessments. It can be used to assess parent-child dynamics and to formulate treatment recommendations. It can also be used prior to commencing theraplay as it helps focus on the following domains:
- Set limits and provide an appropriately ordered environment (Structure);
- Engage the child in interaction while being attuned to the child’s state (Engagement);
- Meet the child’s needs for attention, soothing and care (Nurture); and
- Support and encourage the child’s efforts to achieve at a developmentally appropriate level (Challenge);
Theraplay
Is a therapeutic intervention that works on enhancing and improving parent/carer- child relationships. It is a play based intervention suitable from birth to 18 years. It is a joint intervention including children and carer (s). It helps develop communication between carer and child, including in a non verbal way.
Theraplay group enhances a child’s self-esteem, the sense of belonging, the ability to trust and to care for self and others. Group theraplay is a structured play group. It is an unique intervention because the learning occurs on a non-verbal level.
Individual Theraplay
Theraplay focuses on building and strengthening the parent-child relationship through interactive and playful activities.
