What is a Marschak Interaction Method (MIM)? The MIM is often Bonsai Therapy’s starting point for conducting parent-child relationship assessments. It can be used to assess parent-child dynamics and to formulate treatment recommendations. It can also be used prior to commencing theraplay as it helps focus on the following domains:

  • Set limits and provide an appropriately ordered environment (Structure);
  • Engage the child in interaction while being attuned to the child’s state (Engagement);
  • Meet the child’s needs for attention, soothing and care (Nurture); and
  • Support and encourage the child’s efforts to achieve at a developmentally appropriate level (Challenge);

Is a therapeutic intervention that works on enhancing and improving parent/carer- child relationships. It is a play based intervention suitable from birth to 18 years. It is a joint intervention including children and carer (s). It helps develop communication between carer and child, including in a non verbal way.
